In February 2013, Covent Garden and the British Heart Foundation created an interactive installation on the West Piazza to promote a healthy heart and Valentines Day. There were five small metal mesh sculptures - a heart and four letters that spelt out L O V E. Members of the public purchased a ‘Love Lock’ from the barrow close by, wrote a message to their loved one/s, attached it to one of the sculptures and threw away the key, symbolising love locked forever. The event was a huge success - 8.500 padlocks were attached to the sculptures and £28,000 was raised for the charity.
